Sonic Chaunnakah / Crunk Kwanzaa / Chaotic Christmas
| |
We were reaching for as many holidays as we could in this song, and we managed to grab three. Each of the three parts can be distictly heard in order. Most of the beginning is Sonic Chaunnakah, and about 2/3rds through, Crunk Kwanzaa starts. There's a nice steel drum melody, reminiscent of Soulja Boy. Finallly, when all bell breaks loose, it is known as Chaotic Christmas.

Snow Boots
| |
Snow Boots was written by Matt Hiltachk, a few months before this version was recorded. We took an afternoon together to reconstruct the song in my (no longer existent) garage-studio.
We played this song at open-mic night and did the robot during the drum track bridge. :)

Snowstorm Intrigue
This is the first song from the holiday album Snowman Conspiracy, by The Spectrum Electric. (Donald Hanson and Ian Powell) It was also the first song we made together, both contributing parts.
It was originally supposed to contain a skit about a family who is stuck in their cabin during a snowstorm, keeping themselves warm and entertained through song. The beat is Beat-Boxed by their old-school Hip-Hop friend. The skit didnt make it into the final cut because it seemed funnier at the time than it actually sounded when we recorded it.

Five in the Hive
"Making honey, moving packages, feeling really good. Finding flowers, buzzing busy bees, living in the woods."
This is a song I wrote about Bees. In fact, there's an entire Bee concept album in the works, slated for late 2014.

Last Bedroom Song
This is called Last Bedroom Song because after I had moved away from home, this was made in my bedroom upon returning for a weekend. To this day, it is the last song that I made in that bedroom. (But I can't honestly guarantee that it will be the last)
It is my interpretation of a fast-paced IDM song. You can see the corresponding illustration and text HERE.

| Definition of a Journey
"Get down with the beat."
This is the first song off my first all-software made album, Arcturus Dreams. The album focuses on arrangement of circuit-bent sounds, and this is a good example of that.
You can see the corresponding illustration and text HERE.

The Collector
The robotic arpeggiation and drums in this song was made using a program called Org Maker. It's a very basic sequencer for chiptune-ish music. The program was developed by independent game developer Pixel, for the music in his (incredibly awesome) game, Cave Story.
All of the twinkly bleeps and bloops are circuit-bent noodling on my Yamaha PSS-470
The speech samples were taken from a set of self-help cassettes that I found at goodwill. Honestly, I feel that samples should be more interesting and musical than these, and since these samples are about a specific subject, they force a meaning upon the song that doesn't really match the music. But this was one of my first attempts at sampling, and I didn't really know what I was doing... so it's ok.

Working Hard
Instruments used: Casio VL-Tone for the beat, Yamaha PSS-140 for the melody and bassline, Philodox Box for the electronic energy powerup before the second part, microKORG for the melody towards the end. It's easy to make a song, just start stacking sounds.

Fast Fruit
Fast Fruit is from a split CD called MUSCI, that I made with Ian Powell. There were limited copies of the CD made, as prizes for the Idle Times Winter Games '06. All four of my tracks on MUSCI were made the night before the games. 0_0

Way of Life
"everything evereverything.. everythings from Burma"
This was my first relaxed track. It's full of circuit-bent sounds and weird noises. Note the casio-glitches in time with the beat near the end.

Bazooka Beat
"Sing me a song, and make it something with a ba ba ba ba ba bazooka beat"
There is a much more complex and interesting version of this song, but so far it only exists within my mind. So until the next iteration of Bazooka Beat is born, you can listen to this less-complex demo version.

5:08 PM
If you left me an answering machine message on Wednesday, at 5:08 PM, please call me back. Your message was distorted, choppy, and quite musical. I couldn't understand a word you were saying, please try again. Thanks.

Just in Case Kid
This was the last song written for Keys to my Casio, and I feel that it is the most fully realized of those tracks. The beginning beat was made with a Casio SK-1, the rest with my microKORG and Fruity Loops.
Here's a cover by Tim is Go!
